With summer around the corner, patio season is in full swing, and that means that you’ll want to have your setup looking fresh and clean. Let’s walk through some tips and ideas for getting your patio and all of its accessories looking great!
Increase That Resale Value: Take Care Of Your Window Coverings
If you haven’t been cleaning your exterior window coverings this winter, then now is the perfect time to apply a little elbow grease to make them look sparkling new. Do you have a set of exterior solar shades? If not, then you really should consider getting some! Exterior solar shades help absorb heat, reduce glare, and lower your energy bills all while making your patio space a veritable bonus room for your house. Your friends and family will be happy to have the extra space, especially if they are going a little stir crazy lately.
What You’ll Need To Clean Your Exterior Window Coverings:
- Bucket with warm water and mild detergent like dishwashing liquid. (about 1 to 2 tablespoons per gallon)
- Two large sponges (one for applying the soapy water and the second for rinsing and absorbing excess water)
- Microfiber towel (if available). Grab at least two
- Box fan or hair dryer
- Vacuum with soft brush attachment (optional)
Look at the manufacturer's guidelines first before cleaning, of course, then gather your supplies near your patio. Next, take your sponge and bucket of soapy water and submerge the sponge. Take the sponge out and squeeze excess water out until you have a moist but not dripping wet sponge. We need to be careful with moisture because some exterior coverings can be sensitive or damaged by excess water. Starting from top to bottom, scrub all affected surfaces with the sponge, making sure to get in between any cracks and hard to reach surfaces.
Once everything has been soaped, then you’ll want to take the clean sponge and some clean water and gently scrub any excess soap residue. After you’ve finished with that, then it’s time to break out the box fan or hair dryer and get everything dry as soon as humanly possible! Too much moisture can damage or stain certain parts of the window coverings.
Finish Off The Patio
Grab your broom and some trash bags and sweep away any dirt, dust, and leaves that may have built up on your patio. Check under your eaves and around the sides of your house for any cobwebs that may have built up and sweep those too. Don’t forget to stop by your local greenhouse and load up on flowers. Nothing spells summer on the patio like fresh flowers everywhere! Now it’s time to enjoy your patio and the increased potential resale value of your home!
